What size mountain bike should I get for crosscountry and downhill??? The bike is the specialized enduro?

I’m 6′3 and pretty long arms and legs. Several people told me to get the XL but is this too big? I test rode an xl enduro specialized 07 bike and it feels about right. I think I may tower over the large. I ride up the mountains and then downhill the switchbacks, roots, clifff trails, etc… Is the Large a better bikek for the trails because of the tighter wheel base and lower center of gravity or the the XL a better fit and thus more important?

Also, what body chest armour and full face carbon helmet is good? Something that is not too hot for the carbon full face helmet and chest armor.

I am 5′-11" and am usually comfortable on large mountain bike frames. That said, I’ve ridden a few comfortable mediums. Personally, I like to feel as if I am within the bike moreso than on top of it. (If that makes any sense.)

I wouldn’t worry about the performance of a large vs XL based on frame geometry and proportions. The differences in performance are going to be pretty minimal. The most important thing is that you are comfortable riding the bike. From personal experience, I can tell you there is nothing worse than a poorly fit bike.

The best advice is to ride both a large and an XL and see which feels better given the kind of riding you want to do. By riding, I don’t mean taking a 10 minute spin around the bike shop’s parking lot. Take a good long ride on each and see what works best on the trails you ride.

Hope this helps.

How much is a used 2005/2006 Trek 3900 Mountain Bike worth today?

Found this bike on craigslist, guy wants $99 for it, said he paid $185 for it last August. He says everything works fine, I’m going to look at it and maybe buy it later. Anybody know?

Go to http://thecheapbikeshop.com and click on the "Used Bike Value Calculator" link. Input all the information including the price HE paid for it. After you press the Submit button it’ll email you a summary of it’s value. Very cool.

EDIT: I just did the calculator thing and the value if sold privately was $100.

Beginning Road Biker?

I’m planing to go with a group across the country in a year and a half, I want to start now. I’ve done mountain bikes my whole life, I need to know as many of the ins and outs as I can learn down to clothes and tools needed on top of the bike and all. Please Help

You can buy all the clothes, tools, and equipment you will need. What you can’t buy is the training to be able to ride that far every day. You need to start training now with long distance rides with a fully loaded bike.

What is the worth of a Specialized 21" Men’s Mountain Bike?

The bike is a Rock Hopper, only front shocks..has a 21" frame, Mantou forks, good to great condition, with tire pump on frame, bottle holder, quick release foot peddles. It was new in 2002, paid about 650.00.

I had a 2000 rockhopper pro, with lx/xt avid sd’s and manitou fork, that I bought new for 650. I traded it and $1000 cash for an ‘02 stumpjumper. it was a great bike, but like I said, I paid $650 new. the rockhopper pro from 2000 had an msrp of $900. incidentally, I had a 21" frame, but found the geometry a bit large, and I’m 6′2". if you paid the $650, you paid too much. if that was what the seller paid, it sounds more reasonable. given the age of the bike, I’d offer $150-200..

How to Mountain Bike Downhill

Step 1 Practice starting and stopping on gradual hills to become acquainted with your bike.
Step 2 Brake primarily with your rear brake. Lightly press your brake in and out, called “fluttering,” instead of slamming it down.Step
3 Flutter front and rear brakes in steep spots.
Step 4 Relax. Keep your legs and arms loose as you descend to absorb the bumps smoothly.
Step 5 Keep your weight on your pedals, not the seat. Suspend your rear end over the seat to avoid unexpected jolts.
Step 6 Keep your weight back on steep hills.
Step 7 Use the momentum of your speed to fly over smaller rocks and roots once you become more comfortable.
If you want to tackle a challenging hill, walk it first and plan your line of descent. Focus on your line of travel by looking 20 to 40 feet ahead. Look for a path around obstacles such as logs or rocks. Fixating on obstacles can cause you to bike into them. Slamming on your front brake usually results in a face plant.

Wear a helmet.

Downhill biking (DH) is a gravity-assisted time trial mountain biking event. Riders race against the clock, usually starting at intervals of 30 seconds (seeded from slowest to fastest), on courses which typically take two to five minutes to complete. Riders are timed with equipment similar to that used in Downhill skiing. The placing is determined by the fastest times to complete the course; races are often won by margins of under a second. As the name of this discipline implies, downhill races are held on steep, downhill terrain with no extended climbing sections, resulting in high speed descents with extended air time off jumps and other obstacles

Blunt Force Trauma Never Sounded So Good
Big, beefy, burly — Bullit. There are times when delicacy will only get you hurt, or laughed at, and when gravity is calling like some freakish ghost yodel that only you can hear. Times like those might call for a simple, heavy-duty bike. One with a plentiful 180mm rear travel, a massive 20mm single pivot axle, ISCG05 mounts, a gusseted to 1.5″ headtube, and the choice of 135 or 150mm dropouts. That’d be the Bullit.

Mountain bike helmet used for trails, jumps an down hill and streets to work?

I was wondering if a full face helmet would work?

Thanks I’m crazy so most likely I’m going to hit the ground either way.
Sorry for my grammar mistakes.. I meant *and*

for sure man, full face is the only way when dirt jumpin and trail ridin chances are u are going to hit the side or back of your head in a fall so all around protection is the way to go, check out bell and fox both make decent full face and are easy on the wallet.

Can you get to all 48 State capitols with Just $420.00 ?

And you can only use a mountain bike with bike fixing kit for flats and tools for fixing bike parts and a back pack with three pairs of clothes plus the pair your wearing.

A guy on horseback did it in 3 years. He traveled 20,000 miles.
Another guy rode his bike from Delaware to Oregon in 8 weeks. He covered about 75 miles a day.
So, assuming your trip was 20,000 miles at 75 miles per day with no days off, it would take about 267 days.
That would leave you $1.57 per day for food and supplies. You could afford a Junior Whopper and a small Coke.
That’s not enough calories to fuel such a demanding task, so no, I don’t thin $420 is enough unless you found a way to earn some money along the way, maybe get a sponsor or something.
