what’s the best pannier rack for a mountain bike that has no space for bolt fixings but could use a clamp?
I have bought a mountain bike 2nd hand for commuting. I need to add a pannier rack but the shape of frame means I cannot fit the traditional two bolts onto the bike. I expect I would need a clamp type fixing to attach the rack to the frame under the seat. I am not fussed about looks just practicality and will be added some mudguards to protect clothing. Any recommendations or advice for a beginner cyclist like me?
Have a look at old man mountain racks. They have models that attach to the bike at the brake bosses and the rear quick release. easy to install and good and strong to hold all your treasures.
There are also racks that mount on the seatpost. The seatpost mount ones just attach to the seatpost ONLY without any support stays and are really easy to install but they tend to only hold 15lbs or so.
There are also some nice, cheap, plastic fenders called "clip" fenders that just slide into little clippy things that you attach to the front and the rear of the bike. The can be installed and uninstalled pretty easily. They are cheap, easy and relatively disposable. But for newbies they are key!

The best rack for Panniers? Blackburn. There is no equal. I am pretty sure that Blackburn racks include "P" clips to attach the rack without eyelets.
EDIT: Something just occured to me. If your bike has rear suspension then you have only one choice- a seatpost mount rack. These can only support loads under 10 pounds (less in many cases) and are not suitable for panniers. Mudguards may be available for your bike but they will have to be fitted if you have full suspension… and this is definitely NOT going to be pretty.

I used this one on a trip to Spain. If its a good frame then put some tape round to protect it or buy some P clips
