mountain bike accessories?
my brother loves mountain biking and i want to get him something related for christmas. i thought bike computer, but my dad said that it would just get wrecked going over the rocks and stumps and stuff. he doesnt ride that hard stuff but there are bumps and sometimes falls. is my dad right or is he being his stupid self
if he is right, what other stuff could i get for him. he already has gloves, a camelback, and obviously a bike. any suggestions would me most helpful
a computer would work great. i have a Cateye Enduro 8 model. its made for mountain bikes and has thicker and an 8 function computer. works very nice and is easy to use. it costs roughly $30
other things you can get are:
- tire/ tubes: if you know hes after a certain tire, or tube for flat replacement. just make sure you get the proper tub for his tire. tubes cost bout $5, tires $10-$60
- tools: always a hit. chain breakers, cleaners, chemicals, specialty removal tools, etc. check out your local shop. prices start at $5
- new chain: i asked for one for x-mas. must be compatible with his drivetrain. 6, 7, and 8 speeds use the same chain, 9 speeds require a different chain. prices start at $25. don NOT buy from walmart.
- apparel: fox beanies are cool, sweatshirts, bags, etc.
- gloves: a good cyclist can always use a new pair of gloves. starting at $20
- videos: these are great. go for something like "ROAM", "the Collective", or "Cloraphilla". these are sick! ive already seen them. about $20-30 each
- gift card for favorite shop/website: get something from the bike shop if they do giftcards, or from a website online. JenonUSA does gift cards and they have pretty darn good prices and a big selection of parts.
Good luck!

Lots of mountain bikers have computers on their bikes. Go for it also consider biking clothes. They really are a step up from a t shirt and gym shorts

I have a bike computer and it is fine. I use it off road and had some pretty good stacks and it keeps on working. It a cheap Hong Kong 99cent version off eBay but works fine. You could also get cages to put attach to the pedals. They help with riding so you can pull the pedal up with your foot as opposed to just pushing down all the time. This is a cheaper alternative to cleats.
