How much is my used mountain bike worth? 1994 Trek 8200, Mens 19.5" frame with 26′ wheels, lightly used

Original retail price $360 in 1994. Very lightly used, mostly on pavement, then stored indoors for the past 9 years…
It’s actually an 820–sorry for the typo!
Jman: I’m not sure I even know what I have. Why would my bike be worth that much?!

A very old bike. Since it has "Trek" on it you can probably get $100 for it. It’s a popular brand so you’ll get a little more for those 4 letters.

Mountain Biking Shoe Pedal combo? Good Deal? Reviews?

I am new to MTB and with the purchase of my new bike, I am on a very limited budget. I was searching the internet and came across this deal
http://www.pricepoint.com/detail/17120-285_ADIMW8_KIT-1-Clothing-133-Shoes/Mountain/Adidas-Minrett-Mountain-Shoes-2008-w_-Wellgo-WAM-M3-Pedals.htm

@ pricepoint.com. Is this worth the money and does anyone have any reviews they could share about the shoes or pedals. Thanks ahead of time for your responses…….

First of all, minor correction not meant to be rude….Wellgo is THE major manufacturer of pedals for many companies worldwide, it’s not a house brand for Nashbar (although they make Nashbar’s house-labeled pedals, along with plenty of other private-labeled brands). They make a full range of products…some cheapies and some very good quality ones. People would be surprised if they knew how many of the big, popular-name pedals were made by Wellgo!

That’s a pretty good deal really, and I’ve had a pair of the Minarret shoes. I found them comfortable, but as said above, unless you know that a particular brand fits you well and you already know your size, I’d only buy online if you don’t mind the chance of paying for return shipping if you need to exchange them or get a refund.

Pricepoint is a decent company, but I’d suggest you call in your order to them, especially if you’re getting other items at the same time. Their backorder policy is *stupid*, so make sure that everything you want is in stock and ready to ship. They do have some good deals, but also check out http://www.blueskycycling for shoe/pedal deals (and all the other bike stuff)….much better place, imho.

If I were you, I’d visit some local bike shops and try on shoes. If they can come close to the price (they probably won’t be able to, but maybe), consider supporting your local shop instead of ordering online. If they can’t touch the deal pricewise, then at least you’ll have a better idea for what shoes are comfortable and what size you need (it’ll vary between brands, so try on several).

Hope this helps, enjoy the new bike! :o )

Is a Specialized Hardrock a good mountain bike?

I was planning on paying around 300 for it, i also like to go off-road, what about the front fork?

It is overpriced for what you get for starters. Yes it is a Specialized and with only 21 speeds (7speed) you dont get much for the $. This is one of their bikes that they produce in large #s to make a fast dollar to look good at the end of the year for the investors because they know it will sell. If you are paying more than $400 for this bike there are other brands to look at too if you are comparing apples and oranges. You can do well to look at GTs Avalanche 1.0 @ Performancebike.com and any other brand as well but if the Spec. does it for you then go for it just make sure you are getting a warranty and the dealer will back the bike after the sale too. Seven speed bikes are fast going the way of the dinosaur as most parts have to be ordered as the industry is catering more to the 9 speeds more often and even 8 speed is more or less relegated to the Low end of the industry. You would do well to look at GTs Avalanche and see the difference in Price and quality but I cannot knock Specialized, they make a great product too!

How to change (tune) the fork spring on a mountain bike. Rock Shox Recon example.

This method is somewhat standard across the board. This same exact method can be used on the Reba, Recon, Tora, and other series by Rockshox and many other brands.

Amazing Mountain Bike Jump Competition – Red Bull Rampage – Virgin, Utah

This is a video of the Red Bull Rampage competition that was held in Virgin, Utah for three years in a row, I think from 2002-2004. The event was held again in October of 2008. The goal of this competition is to get down the mountain the most difficult way without wrecking or putting a foot down. This stuff is sick!

Side Note: I do not own the rights to this video. That is reserved to the owners.

Mountain bike Felt 6061, used, worth to buy?

I found a used Felt mountain bike on an online auction, only about 10 dollars. The bike has been standing outside for more than 2 years and is rusty. There’s no opportunity to go and have a look, because it’s an auction. The seller does not tell, how much work should be done on the bike. What do you think, should I take a chance with it or would it be very expensive to fix? Please advice – a girl with no mechanical experience.

Thanks!!

See if you can find out if it’s a steel or aluminum frame. The 6061 is likely an aluminum frame, which would stand up to the elements better, and is lighter and favored by more serious riders. If it’s been outside for 2 years and exposed to rain/snow/etc. it’s likely the components won’t be performing their best and may have to be replaced, depending on how extensive the rust is, and how well the owner treated the bike. But if you’re more of a casual rider it will be a lot cheaper (and a lot less painful) for you to buy a brand new bike from Target or Sports Authority, many of which are in the $100-$200 range.
